How to track hours across multiple jobs
Different employers can mean different rotas, hourly rates and pay periods. A single personal calendar helps you see the whole week while keeping each job’s records separate.
Keep a separate record for each job
Give each job a clear name and record its hourly rate. Add the confirmed shifts for each employer to your planner. Check for overlapping times and allow for travel between workplaces before accepting another shift.
Separate planned hours from worked hours
A planned eight-hour shift may finish early or run late. After the shift, record the actual start and finish times and unpaid breaks. Keep a note of a cancellation or adjustment so you can understand changes in the monthly total.
Calculate each job before adding the totals
For a simple hourly rate, estimated gross pay equals paid hours multiplied by the rate. If one job has 12 paid hours at £13 and another has 8 paid hours at £15, the combined estimate is £156 + £120 = £276 before deductions.
Calculate overtime, enhancements and different rates separately using the rates agreed with your employer. Do not assume every hour attracts the same rate. Use the free calculator to check each shift, then combine the figures.
Compare the same pay period
One employer may pay weekly and another monthly. Compare your record with each payslip’s actual period, rather than assuming the calendar month matches it. Check any differences with the employer or agency.
