Shift hours & gross pay calculator
Check the paid hours and estimated earnings for a shift, including shifts that finish the next day.
How shift pay is calculated
Subtract the start time from the end time, then subtract unpaid breaks. Multiply the remaining paid hours by your hourly rate. For example, 08:00–20:00 is 12 hours; after a 30-minute unpaid break, 11.5 paid hours at £13 gives £149.50 gross.
Overnight shifts
If the end time is earlier than the start, the calculator treats it as the following day. For matching start and end times, select “Shift ends the next day” for a 24-hour shift. This calculator uses clock times; daylight-saving changes are not included.
What the estimate includes
The result uses a single hourly rate and identical shifts. It does not calculate tax, pension deductions, overtime bands, enhanced rates or unpaid leave. Calculate differently paid hours separately and check your employer’s payroll records. No details are sent to a server or saved by this calculator.
